5 Important Items to Put in Your Dental Emergency Kit

Posted on 11/25/2015 by Allan Hablutzel
A collection of emergency dental equipment .Are you and your family prepared for a dental emergency? Every home should have a dental emergency kit so that you are guarded in the event of a sudden dental problem. When creating your kit, be sure to add in the following important items.

A Small Container
If you break or knock out a tooth, it is important to have somewhere to store it quickly.

A save-a-tooth kit or other small container that can hold liquids is essential for keeping your tooth safe until you can see your dentist.

Sterile Gauze
For any emergency supply kit, sterile gauze is essential. Gauze is extremely versatile and can be used for a wide variety of dental emergencies. Whether you injure your gums, knock out a tooth, or bite your tongue, it is crucial that you stop the bleeding. Use water to moisten the gauze and apply pressure onto the injury.

Floss

If you get something stuck in between your teeth, it is important to have access to a floss to get it out quickly. Leaving the item in between the teeth for an extended period of time could cause damage and may possibly lead to long-term problems like decay.

Pain Reliever
When you suffer a dental emergency, you are likely going to experience some pain and discomfort. While it is important to get into your dentist right away, you shouldn't have to endure pain before you arrive. Taking Tylenol or ibuprofen can help to keep you comfortable until you can be seen by a dentist.

Orthodontic Wax

Even if you don't have braces, orthodontic wax can be a handy addition to your dental emergency kit. Wax can also be used temporarily if you chip a tooth or pop off a filling.
