How Should You Care for the Roots of Your Teeth?

If the roots of your teeth need a bit of care, it is likely due to problems with gum disease. Gums can recede during this process, and leave your roots exposed. There are a couple things that you can do if you need help caring for your roots, both of which are done by your dentist. Speak with him or her today about how to best care for your mouth and improve your oral health.

Getting Scaling and Root Planing Helps Keep the Roots Healthy

Scaling and root planing is when your dentist has to go down into the pockets between your gums and your teeth and clean out any plaque that has built up over the course of time.

They numb the gums, go in and scrape out the plaque, and often put a bit of antibiotic in the gap to help it heal. This is typically no more than a bit uncomfortable, but it is numbed to help it be easier for the patient.

A Root Canal Removes an Unhealthy Root to Keep Your Mouth Healthy

When a dentist has to go into a tooth and remove an unhealthy root, it can be nerve-wracking. However, it can also keep the rest of your mouth healthier than leaving an unhealthy root in place. Once the root canal is done, the tooth is capped with a crown and your tooth should then be salvaged.

If you need additional help caring for the roots of your teeth, contact your dentist. They can take a moment to examine your mouth and give you their professional opinion. From there, you and your dentist can determine the best course of action to keep your mouth healthy. Contact our office today, and see what can be done to save the roots of your teeth.
