Early Oral Health Habits
It should be no surprise that habits formed early in childhood are the ones we tend to carry with us throughout our life. This is why we encourage our patients to help their children form solid oral health habits early in life. Brushing after breakfast and before bed is easy and important to their continued oral health. Flossing at least once a day is important to clean food particles and decay causing bacteria between teeth.
One of the most overlooked oral health habits kids ought to develop is regular visits to our office. Once your child becomes used to seeing us twice a year their anxiety will shrink away and be replaced with fun memories of our kind and helpful staff. We will always give your child with a going away present of some floss and a tooth brush!
How to Make Dental Habits Fun
The market today is just brimming with fun, high-quality oral health products for children. If your child needs some extra encouragement to pick up a tooth brush now there are so many different varieties of playfully themed toothbrushes, featuring everything from princesses to superheroes.
Making a game out to oral hygiene routines is another method that works for some when trying to get a reluctant child to follow through with their brushing and flossing. Another great way to encourage them is simply to brush with them. So many children just want to do “adult” things and by sharing that time with them it can encourage them to follow your lead.
Whatever the method you use to get your children to brush their teeth, know that you are doing them and their teeth a huge favor that will last their whole life.
