How Veneers Work?
Unlike dental crowns, veneers cover only the front facing surface of your teeth. Your veneers appointments generally consist of two office visits, varying on the necessary preparatory work.
At your first appointment, Dr. Hablutzel begins with reducing the natural tooth structure to allow space for placement of the veneer. The tooth is then etched to increase surface area and allow for better bonding. A mold is taken of the tooth for customized fabrication of your veneer shell. The veneer is made of porcelain or acrylic and customized for your bite.
Once we receive the veneer from the dental lab, you will be contacted for placement. Dr. Hablutzel will check the fit, make adjustments as needed and then bond the thin porcelain shell directly to the front of your teeth with a bonding cement.
Following placement, you will be able to care for your veneer as you do your other teeth. Your care regime will including daily brushing and flossing. You can resume eating your normal diet, your veneer is designed to withstand normal chewing motions, and just like your regular teeth, you would want to use caution and not chew ice, or other hard materials.
Generally, veneers will last for many years, and the technique has shown remarkable longevity when properly performed.
What Are Dental Veneers Made Of?
Dental veneers are typically made of composite resin materials or porcelain. In most cases, these materials are tooth-colored to ensure that they give a natural appearance and shape and look just like natural teeth.
They are permanently bonded to the teeth to fit strongly, enabling the tooth in its new state to work just like the natural teeth would.
Generally speaking, the porcelain materials are more stain resistant than the resin veneers and will likely also mimic the light-reflecting properties of the natural teeth.
